Ferrochrome is a ferroalloy composed primarily of chromium and iron, serving as a key alloying agent in the iron and steel industry. It typically contains between 55% and 75% chromium. Based on carbon content, ferrochrome is classified into high-carbon (4%–10% C), medium-carbon (0.5%–4% C), low-carbon (0.15%–0.50% C), and micro-carbon (≤0.15% C) varieties. High-carbon ferrochrome is also known as carbon ferrochrome, while medium-, low-, and micro-carbon ferrochromes are collectively referred to as refined ferrochrome. The lower the carbon content, the more difficult the smelting process becomes, resulting in higher power consumption and production costs.

Product Grade and Chemical Composition

Ferrochromium is divided into four major categories: Extra Low Carbon Ferrochromium, Low Carbon Ferrochromium, Medium Carbon Ferrochromium and High Carbon Ferrochromium based on carbon content, with a total of 68 grades. The main grades and their chemical compositions are as follows (in accordance with GB/T 5683-2024 Standard):
