product description
Ferrovanadium is a ferroalloy composed of vanadium and iron; it is primarily used as an alloying additive in steelmaking, while high-vanadium grades also serve as additives for non-ferrous alloys. It appears as silvery-white lumps with a density of approximately 6.1 g/cm³, and vanadium itself has a melting point of 1902°C. Vanadium and iron form a continuous solid solution in both liquid and solid states.
Ferrovanadium is produced via the carbothermic reduction of vanadium pentoxide in an electric furnace or through the aluminothermic reduction process. Common grades contain 40%, 60%, or 80% vanadium. Based on vanadium content, the alloys are primarily classified into FeV50 and FeV80.
Note: Ferrovanadium with a vanadium content of ≥80% is classified as high-vanadium ferrovanadium (e.g., FeV80), while that with a content of ≥50% is classified as medium-vanadium ferrovanadium (e.g., FeV50).
