product description
Ferrosilicon is an iron-silicon alloy produced by the reduction smelting of coke, steel scrap, and quartz (or silica) in an electric furnace at high temperatures ranging from 1,500°C to 1,800°C. It has a melting point of 1,200–1,250°C and a density of approximately 6.8–7.2 g/cm³.
Because silicon readily combines with oxygen to form silicon dioxide (SiO₂), ferrosilicon serves as a deoxidizer in steelmaking; the formation of SiO₂ releases significant heat, which helps raise the temperature of the molten steel. Additionally, ferrosilicon is used as an alloying agent in the production of low-alloy structural steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel, and electrical silicon steel, and it frequently acts as a reducing agent in the ferroalloy and chemical industries.
